Basic Life Support (BLS) is a crucial qualification for anyone working in the healthcare industry or those who want to be prepared to respond to emergencies. The aim of the BLS course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies promptly and effectively.

The primary objective of the BLS course is to teach participants how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on adult, child, and infant patients using the guidelines set by the British Heart Foundation aligned to Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF). Participants will also learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and how to provide effective rescue breaths.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification

Understand the safe steps to take for responding to a medical emergency and the importance of a primary and secondary survey.
Be able to recognise and respond to choking and severe breathing difficulties, including anaphylaxis or cardiac arrest.
Know how cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is performed.
Understand how to place someone in the recovery position.
Understand the role of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) as well as how to locate and use one.
Know the adaptations required for paediatric and infant basic life support.
